Armed Teenage Girl Scares Off 3 Home Intruders In North Carolina
Armed 13-year-old frightens home invaders
An armed teenager scared off three home intruders recently in Snow Camp, North Carolina. A 13-year-old and her younger sister, 12, were by themselves when the incident happened in late July.
The men approached the house and knocked on the door, but the older girl didn’t recognize the men. The strangers ventured to the back of the house when the 13-year-old went to get her father’s rifle. When they tried breaking through another door, the girl aimed the firearm at the home invaders.
All three men fled the scene when they saw the gun pointed at them. Fortunately, there was no resistance and the two armed teenagers may have saved their own lives.
Jackie Garrison, a neighbor who lives next door to the teenagers, heaped praise on the girl for her fast-thinking.
“To have had that kind of thoughtfulness going on in a time of crisis in her head to where that’s what she did, instead of running and hiding,” Garrison told WNCN News. “She probably stopped something major from going on.”
Kirk Puckett, a spokesperson for the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, believes that the sisters had been taught how to handle themselves in a situation like that one. He explained that how someone reacts under traumatic circumstances is a personal one.
Puckett describes how there are two ways of thinking when a person deals with home invasion. Some might say if someone comes into their house, they’ll get shot or die. Others might opt to retreat or find a way out of the situation … going into another room and barricading themselves from being confronted with the invader.
The two teenage girls who were armed, successfully protected themselves from the home intruders, and managed to scare them off without getting harmed. No arrests were made in the incident. Deputies are looking into whether the three men who approached the home are linked to other break-ins throughout the area.
A lot of debate surrounds the subject of guns in society today, but it’s even more contentious when it comes to America’s youth. In the case of this North Carolina teen efficiently handling a rifle, it’s evident she was instructed on how to hold and operate a firearm. On top of that, she exuded confidence in her abilities which the criminals noted. The girl showed no fear by holding what was likely a fully loaded gun and the men weren’t willing to stick around. It’s instances like this that pro-gun advocates want the anti-gun protesters to ponder.
