New Gun Range On Tap for Wisconsin

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Department in Wisconsin is getting a new facility with an indoor shooting range and classrooms. The Gazette Xtra in Walworth County reports that the new facility will open in early 2017.

The old facility has been closed since 2015 due to disrepair. It was demolished in 2016 to make way for a facility that is 25% larger than the current one. The new facility cost $425,000 and will provide state-of-the-art training facility for sheriff’s department members. According to reports once the old building was closed and then demolished, trainees had no choice but to train outdoors. Given the extremes of Wisconsin weather, that was not an enjoyable experience for anyone.

The new facility will also contain a classroom. In addition to being able to train indoors, the new facility allows members to train in no- or low-light conditions. The building is already built, but the inside remains unfinished and is expected to open in early 2017.

The range will not be open to the general public, but will be available to all law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction in Walworth County. Gateway Technical College and non-profits offering hunter safety and standard gun safety courses will be allowed to operate there.
