Allman Bros Wife Throws Rifle in Water After Threat to High Schoolers

This made us scratch our heads.

the state of Florida in outline

In Florida, the 62-year-old wife of a well-known musician apparently stood on her dock and threatened several members of a rowing team practicing nearby. She used a rifle to threaten the rowing team, then threw the rifle in the water! Donna Betts is the wife of Dickie Betts, a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band.

About 5:30pm last Monday, deputies responded to calls about Donna Betts standing on her dock pointing a rifle at the Sarasota Rowing high school group during their daily practice. She allegedly pointed a .30.-30 Winchester rifle at the team and threatened to shoot them if they came onto her property. Someone with a cell phone filmed the incident. She then threw the weapon in the water and then went inside her home.

To that we have to ask, WHY? Why throw the rifle away? Then we have to remind ourselves that someone who would threaten a harmless group of people this way — who were probably in the water, on their boats, or else on the dock getting ready to get into the water, and probably not bothering her property at all, just guessing — is probably not acting in their right mind.

There’s more…When Betts went inside she called 911 and told dispatchers that the high schoolers had ruined her life and she has had it. The rifle was recovered and Betts was taken into custody for the threat.
